Three quarters of the terrain at Fernie Alpine Resort sits beneath five looming headwalls in avalanche paths - a constant hazard if not for the daily efforts of a skilled team of technicians who keep the mountain safe.

Local legends tell the myth of a long lost man, shoulders 6 feet wide, who lives among the wildlife deep in the mountains above Fernie, BC. As the story goes, a shot from his 8-foot musket brings blankets of powder to the valley. Locals know him only as “The Griz”. Dylan Siggers among the other townsfolk has made a life of this tradition, finding purpose in the abundance of snow brought by this mythical man.

Silver Spring Lakes is a beautiful early season hike that yields an incredible payout of 3 gorgeous mountain lakes. The hike follows a chain of three deep blue lakes at the base of steep cliffs not far from Fernie or Elko, BC. Each lake has its own distinct color, depth and plant habitat.
