Local legends tell the myth of a long lost man, shoulders 6 feet wide, who lives among the wildlife deep in the mountains above Fernie, BC. As the story goes, a shot from his 8-foot musket brings blankets of powder to the valley. Locals know him only as “The Griz”. Dylan Siggers among the other townsfolk has made a life of this tradition, finding purpose in the abundance of snow brought by this mythical man.

Silver Spring Lakes is a beautiful early season hike that yields an incredible payout of 3 gorgeous mountain lakes. The hike follows a chain of three deep blue lakes at the base of steep cliffs not far from Fernie or Elko, BC. Each lake has its own distinct color, depth and plant habitat.

As the Fernie Trails Alliance launches its new Fernie Trails Pass and website this spring, they wants trail users, visitors and residents alike, to understand what they do, the member clubs they represent, and how alongside land owners, they work together to ensure Fernie's trail network is the best it can be now and for the forseeable future. The Goldilocks Trail at Island Lake Lodge is an alpine loop in the Lizard Range near Fernie BC. The 3.7 km trail is a new extension of the existing Spineback trail. The trail takes hikers through valleys, a mountain pass and through the dramatic peaks of the 3 Bears. Hikers can expect spectacular views, wildflowers and if your lucky, you might see Mountain Goats.

The Spineback Trail is one of the signature hikes at Island Lake Lodge. Paralleling the beautiful Spineback Ridge, the trail winds up through sub-alpine meadows, reaching the crest of the ridge and its bench. Continue to the second bench nestled between the 3 Bears’ peaks.
