Canada Day in Fernie

Join the City of Fernie and members of Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi ‘it for the Flag Raising Ceremony and Reconciliation Walk from City Hall to the Aquatic Centre. A ceremony and Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡI ‘it traditional drumming and dancing will follow on the Aquatic Centre Main Stage.

In the afternoon, enjoy a line-up of local live music, activities for kids, and the Mountain Market on the Aquatic Centre grounds in celebration of Canada Day. Live music performers include Fernie Youth Singers, Heather Gemmel, Hark Raving Sirens, Ivan Palomares and RedGirl.

Music On The Mountain & Timber Chair

Join Fernie Alpine Resort on July 1st for sightseeing, hiking and an afternoon of live music on the Timber chair and Lost Boys Cafe.

The Timber chair will be open for hiking and sightseeing from 10:30am to 4:00pm on July 1st with access to the following hiking trails:

  • Pika Pass
  • Lost Boys Lookout
  • Siberia Ridge
  • White Pass Road

Live music from duo Loop Hole & the Twisted Tree at Lost Boys Cafe from 12:00pm until 3:00pm. Lost Boys Cafe will be open for food and drink 10:30am to 3:30pm.

Fernie Alpine Resort Opening Day Summer 2023

Fernie Alpine Resort opens for daily summer operations on June 24th!

Enjoy lift-accessed mountain biking, hiking and sightseeing. The Elk Chair is open daily from 10:30am to 4:30pm (with extended hours from 10:30am to 7:00pm on Thursdays).

Specialty Hike – Mountain Wildflowers

More than just a Pretty Face:  Mountain Wildflowers

Take a stroll through Fernie Alpine Resort's colourful sub-alpine meadows and discover why wildflowers are not only beautiful but also an interesting and important part of the natural landscape and ecosystem.

Explore and find out more about the mountain, the secrets it has to offer, and enjoy the beautiful scenery on one of their specialty hikes! Each hike has a different theme and is fully guided by their experienced, professional staff. Hikes are 4 hours in length and go from 10:30am to 2:30pm.

Annual Raft Race

Teams can be 6 – 8 participants. Costumes encouraged.

$20.00/person (goes to Elk River Alliance). Guide, Lifejacket and paddles provided.

Everyone’s favourite weekly bike race series is back for 2023 – The Scott Downhill Race Series. Come out each week for a fun, gravity-fed downhill race followed by prizing, results, and a beverage at Legends Mountain Eatery.

The races will run similar to last summer with Kids & Youth (ages 8-17) racing on Wednesday Afternoons at 4:30 pm and Adults & Masters (ages 18+) racing on Thursdays at 6:30 pm.   Races run weekly from June 28th to August 31st**
