Anything Goes

ANYTHING GOES EVENT SERIES (AGES) was born from the momentum of the inaugural Fernie Gravel Grind in 2020. Inspired by the event’s guiding motto, “anything goes with gravel,” AGES evolved into the umbrella organization for all of our cycling events. What started as a single gravel race has grown into a dynamic series, spanning 500-rider gravel events that climb into the high alpine, to downcountry cross-country races on some of Fernie’s best singletrack, all set in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.

At its core, AGES exists to create bucket-list cycling experiences through high-quality, inclusive, and community-driven events. Our goal is simple, deliver exceptional race experiences for riders of all backgrounds and abilities. Whether you’re chasing a podium, tackling your first start line, or riding purely for the adventure, AGES events are designed to feel welcoming, professional, and unforgettable.

While AGES stems from the Fernie Gravel Grind, the series has ebbed and flowed over the years, growing from one event to three, scaling back to two, and expanding again to four in 2026. What hasn’t changed is the unwavering commitment to delivering high-caliber events created for riders, by riders.  As active racers ourselves, we understand what elevates an event from good to exceptional, and we work tirelessly behind the scenes to make that difference tangible on race day.

Attention to detail is our calling card, but our volunteers are our heartbeat. Ask any rider what stands out most about an AGES event and they’ll say the same thing, the volunteers. From venue setup to aid station crews, our volunteers bring unmatched energy, encouragement, and professionalism event after event, year after year. Their dedication creates the collective buzz and shared excitement that transforms a race into a true community experience. We may be biased, but we genuinely believe we have some of the most passionate and supportive volunteers out there.

The 2026 season is shaping up to be our biggest yet. We’re thrilled to bring back the 6th edition of the Fernie Gravel Grind, alongside the 4th Cranbrook Gravel Grind. We’re equally excited to introduce the inaugural Fernie Women’s Enduro, Femmduro, partnering with year two of Steep n’ Deep XC all in support of the Fernie Trails Alliance. From gravel grinders to cross-country hammerheads and enduro shredders, there will be no shortage of opportunities to pin on a number and be part of something special.

Carter Nieuwesteeg is a professional cyclist, bike coach as well as the founder of the Anything Goes Event Series. He is passionate about the Fernie bike community and giving back.
