The Vogue Theatre is BACK

On June 25, the Vogue Theatre is opening its doors to our community after a long stretch of unknown... and everyone is pumped and excited and ready to support this business and the amazing family behind it! I got in touch with Rox Djonlich to see how they're feeling and to express our gratitude to the Djonlich family for their support and presence this last year plus.
Q. Like many individuals, COVID-19 has impacted your business. How have you and your family coped and stayed positive during this time?
A. Running the theatre has never felt like a job to us. It was always a fun and social place, where the patrons come happy and excited to take in the latest release. It was very tough for us to close The Vogue down for as long as we did. It has felt like an eternity. The Vogue has such a long and rich history, in fact it is one of the oldest Cinemas in Canada, and this history helped keep us positive by keeping the past 15 months in perspective, as just another moment in time. We have always considered ourselves stewards of this 113 year-old building and it was not going to permanently close on our watch!
Q. The Popcorn Fairy brought smiles, love and lots of popcorn and treats to movie nights enjoyed at home this past year. How did you come up with the idea, and what was the response like?
A. We were watching a tremendous amount of movies at home and I knew everyone else was, so I decided to put together popcorn packages and deliver them to friends around town. It felt so good to see how happy it made them and thought that more people could benefit from it, and from there the Popcorn Fairy came to life. The response was amazing. We were able to hire a few of our staff back, it brought a little life back to the building and it kept our business going.
Q. What have you missed most about operating the movie theatre?
A. The customers, the sense of community, the good energy, and of course a pay cheque. There really is no greater feeling than watching a movie on the big screen surrounded by people, collectively experiencing the same thing at the same time.
Q. What are you most excited about with the reopening?
A. Rehabilitating that sense of community that we have lost. We expect it to take some time to get back to the way it used to be but we are confident the Vibe will return!
Q. Any other comments you would like to share with our community?
A. We would really just like to sincerely thank everyone for their support of the Popcorn fairy, including our wonderful neighbours in Sparwood and Elkford. We were able to weather this in large part with your support. We are so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful community.
Thank YOU Rox and crew! We can't wait to come see the latest release (A Quiet Place II and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway) at the Vogue very soon!
