"Endless Possibilities: My Journey with Clay"
I am an emerging potter who mainly enjoys wheelwork with occasional cravings for hand building with clay slabs. Although I started working with clay over 30 years ago it is just in the last 4 years that I have been able to devote more time to working with this medium, mainly making functional pieces with texture that complement the form and glaze. I make many different pieces from spoons to plates to jars, teapots and more. Trying different forms and sizes helps to continuously develop my skills as a potter and I've come to realize I enjoy making each piece unique. Over the years I've taken countless workshops hosted at the Arts Station by many different potters who have been so generous sharing their time and talent. I must say I have also taken other workshops (painting, basket weaving, etc) that I feel can complement or learn new skills that could possibly transfer to working with clay. Without the Arts Station pottery studio my desire to work with clay may have never continued. The opportunity to use the studio and take workshops have vastly improved my skills and enthusiasm in clay making! This would be my first significant show, definitely my homage to the Arts Station's pottery facility.
I love to work with clay, mainly wheel work with the urge to occasionally hand build with clay slabs. I make functional items and use texture to complement the piece and glaze. I make a great variety of shapes and sizes as the possibilities truly are endless! I don't limit myself to consistent size or form and continually push myself to try new ideas, making each piece unique and myself a better potter. I started working with clay on the wheel over 30 years ago but it is just in the last 4 years that I have been able to devote more time to this medium. The Arts Station's pottery studio has been so integral to developing my pottery skills to where I'm at today. So many talented artists have shared through many workshops hosted at this unique facility. Welcome to my journey...it's just getting started!
