Encounters: Jean Marchi

1:30pm - 3:30pm

Encounters is an informal, ongoing series which connects demonstrating local artists, craftsmen, and artisans with museum visitors and the community.

Jean is an emerging artist exploring light and energy in landscape paintings. This past year she has been experimenting with a more graphic style. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, her pieces are largely representational, layered upon abstract underpaintings, vestiges of which can often be seen in the finished piece. Committed to life-long learning, Jean has “played” with art her entire life and whenever possible took many art courses. Since retiring to Fernie, 3 years ago, she has dedicated more time to her development as an artist, furthering her skills through workshops, mentorship and practice, always seeking clarity in her personal style.

The Fernie Museum’s pop-up exhibits allow local artists to showcase and sell their work, while providing exhibiting artists an opportunity to demonstrate their practice and engage with visitors, making their accessible to more potential patrons. They are one month in duration and are scheduled for fall and spring annually.
