Climate Strike, Fernie Secondary School

Youth at Fernie Secondary School have been inspired by the global Fridays for Future movement and want to increase awareness around the severity of the climate crisis. They wish to highlight the need for significant climate action expected by youth in our community and hope to demonstrate their frustration with the lack of action at the appropriate scale shown by political and economic leaders surrounding the climate crisis. While they recognize the City has taken some action in the past surrounding the climate crisis, they believe there is a huge opportunity awaiting Fernie's leadership. "The support, knowledge, and expertise in this community can be harnassed to make real change in the time scale that this crisis demands," says Kate Brennan, a Grade 12 Student at FSS.

The Climate Strike will walk from FSS and be at the steps of City Hall by 11:30am and all members of the community are welcome to participate.
