winter

The Lizard Range’s wild and rugged peaks seem to have a knack for capturing moist weather patterns holding them hostage while snow falls hard and heavy for days. This makes Fernie the ideal winter playground for countless outdoor pursuits.

A shake of the snow globe and braapcountry enthusiasts find ourselves on the heels of another legendary winter in the Elk Valley. Emerging as one of BC’s best snowmobile destinations, Fernie serves up out-the-door, easy access to a delicious buffet of terrain suitable for a variety of powder palates.

Sometimes, when the snow flies covering the Valley in a blanket of white, fluffy powder, instead of heading to the hill with the masses, a solo walk meandering in the trees is just what you need. Here are three of my three favourite places to “get lost” in winter.

Prepare yourself once again this season for the return of Fernie Alpine Resorts’ Kokanee Snow Dreams. Traditionally, the Griz rewards our celebration of winter with fresh snow, serving up an all you can eat Powder Buffet. After you’ve tackled the slopes join us for an Ice Cold Kokanee in the Griz Bar while listening to our live DJ. The party continues all night in the legendary Griz Bar, where the most unspeakable of Après activities have been witnessed on more than one occasion. Don’t miss out on the Kokanee Snow Dreams 2019 this season!

This month Julie challenges you to get out of town and hit the trails at Fernie Alpine Resort for some winter riding. In celebration of the Feminism issue, encourage some female friends or family members to join and consider making a morning or afternoon out of it.

The mountains are covered in white glorious snow, and endless opportunity awaits you. Now your only problem is trying to fit it all in. Well, we’re to help. Here are our choices of routes not to miss this winter season.

This winter, add some magic and memory with something that few of us choose to do in the winter – picnic!
