Wednesday Concert Series

The Arts Station's Wednesday Concerts Series are set to return this summer and the Christ Church Anglican hosts a a veteran touring duo, for a fundraising music concert.

Vancouver’s Lion Bear Fox is three huge voices joined as one, telling the truth through compelling story, honest narrative and unbridled passion. One part folk, one part rock – a pinch of gospel and a dash of growl, lush acoustic guitars are bookended by buzzing electrics and screaming organs; all tied together by rich percussion and three voices in mighty harmony.

Nova Scotian sisters Cassie and Maggie have been lighting up the world with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary Celtic instrumentals and vocals. The sisters have enchanted audiences far and wide with lively fiddle, piano and guitar arrangements, stunning sibling vocal harmonies in both English and Gaelic, all complemented by their intricate and percussive stepdancing style.

Noted activist, theologian, author, documentary filmmaker, and musician, Reverend Osagyefo Sekou was born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in the rural Arkansas Delta. Rev. Sekou’s music is an unique combination of North Mississippi Hill Country Music, Arkansas Delta Blues, Memphis Soul and Pentecostal steel guitar. Join Rev at this Wednesday concert together with the Dimpker Brothers.

Deep Down Yonder is a multi instrumentalist/Producer who combines live instruments such as five string banjo, guitar, bass, dobro and harmonica with homemade electronic beats, samples, and synth pads. His sound is a whole new style of danceable, multi-layered, renegade electro-mountain music that blends genres and walks the line between country, funk, and psychedelic four on the floor house.

Freak Motif was born when a group of strangers picked up their instruments and went parading through downtown Calgary. Sharing a love of improvised music, funk, soul, disco, afrobeat, and reggae, their coming together sparked a movement which has evolved into an 8-piece dance party.

Wielding an unmistakable brand of Western Folk, Calgary Alberta’s Northern Beauties have now carved their name into the western Canadian musical landscape. The harmonies of vocalists Todd Stewart and Craig Aikman are a natural blend and the new line up embodies what Stewart calls Western Folk – the distinct, bluegrass-infused contemporary folk sound of which the band is now considered to be a progenitor.
