The registration deadline is approaching for the 2023 BC Wake Surf Provincial Championships, which kick off Saturday morning at Lake Koocanusa.

“This is a grassroots competition open to riders of all skill levels, and our big focus is on creating community and having fun,” says Waterski and Wakesports BC Wake Surf Committee member Loree Duczek.  “We are excited to celebrate the sport and to encourage new and up-and-coming riders while showcasing our beautiful region.”

For anyone on the competitive wakesurfing circuit, Caroline Villeneuve’s status as a pioneer and legend in the sport are well known, but it is now official as Villeneuve has been presented with the Competitive Wakesurfing Association’s most prestigious award, the Legend Award, for her contributions to the sport.

The 5th edition of our annual standup paddleboard race. Hosted by Mountain High Adventures, all proceeds from the race go towards building the Fernie Surf Park - a surf wave on the Elk River right in the heart of Fernie!

If you’ve been thinking about learning how to canoe or kayak on the lake or river, but think it’s too expensive, a hassle or scary then September is the perfect time to jump in a boat, enjoy the mountains from the water, get some exercise and explore.

Not to be confused with wakeboarding, wakesurfing is a water sport in which riders surf the wake behind a boat unsupported, using a towrope only to get to their feet before releasing it as they ride freely on the endless wake created by the vessel.
