I knew I could draw and paint from an early age. but I didn’t start painting seriously until nearing retirement from my regular job. My wife, Bev, bought me a Robert Bateman book for my birthday and I knew then that painting was something I would like to do. About the wildlife art I looked at, I said, “I can do that!”

An introduction to Plein Air Painting with artist demos and one on one instruction. You will explore what to look for before beginning a painting, choosing a composition, laying out the composition, blocking it in and recording the most important details of the scene. Plein Air painting is about expressing your impression in a simplified manner in a short amount of time. (because the lighting is constantly changing). It is about engaging with your subject on a more intimate level by learning from painting from real life and immersing yourself in the landscape.

Alexandra is a multi-media artist focused on portraying the essence of Fernie’s natural spaces. She loves to depict movement and states of flux. The seasonal changes in Fernie provide a constant inspiration with every week more beautiful than the last, in its own unique way.

Drawing inspiration from the architecture and nature of her surroundings to create paintings that show the ever-evolving history and unique character of her adopted home, this small town nestled in the Rocky Mountains.
