Fernie Friends of Opera screen an opera every month at the Arts Station, with admission by donation. This month's opera is Die Tote Stadt (The Dead City) composed by Erich Korngold. Sung in German with English subtitles, 2h, 25 m. This production is from the Opera national du Rhin in Strasbourg, France, 2001.

Parsifal by Richard Wagner

Parsifal represents the culmination of Wagner’s work. In it he created a powerful allegory on the conflict between Christianity and paganism, good and evil, light and dark, physical passion and spiritual abstinence. In this production we’ll see the finest Wagnerian singers of the period, with Barenboim’s superb conducting revealing Wagner’s multilayered score in all its glory.

By the Berlin State Opera and Chorus conducted by Daniel Barnboim, directed by Harry Kupfer.
