The truth is that as many as 50% of all pregnancies are unplanned, and the majority of those pregnancies, labours, and postpartum periods go just fine, but there are definitely ways that you can get your body and mind to an optimum level of health in preparation for a planned pregnancy. Doing so can increase your likelihood of getting pregnant when planned, it can make pregnancy itself easier and more enjoyable, better prepare you for the work of labour, and enable you to recover more quickly from pregnancy and birth and rebuild your stores (which you’ll need for months of breastfeeding!).

I love summer. It's is a great time of year to recharge your diet and your health. Eating seasonally throughout the winter can make it difficult to get excited about your next meal of roasted yams or stuffed squash, but in the summer the palette of colors comes alive with seasonal summer fruit and vegetables. We have more energy in general, boosted by the extra hours of daylight and the appearance of the warm, energizing sun. Our activites tend to take us out of the gym, and into the outdoors, which makes it easier (and a little less scary) to try new things.

With April comes the Green Issue of the Fernie Fix, so I thought it might be a good time to go over some tips to decrease your exposure to unnecessary and potentially harmful chemicals in some of the products you use in both the bathroom and the kitchen, and some other tips to decrease your environmental impact overall. Many of the additives included in these products are known carcinogens and can interfere with hormone levels. Here are five ways that you can improve your health and quality of life in an effort to be more “green”.

And like trends in general, some may be more valuable or appropriate than others and it’s up to you to research them before making a decision that may affect your health.
