It’s January and that means many of us are starting off the New Year with the #FernieStreak. What is the Fernie Streak? It’s about setting the goal to do thirty minutes of self-propelled activity outdoors with intention for as many days in January as possible. For all you activity enthusiasts out there, this challenge is going to be right up your alley as we welcome another fun-filled year in Fernie.

If there’s one thing everyone living in Fernie can agree on it’s that we’re all so lucky to call this place home! Especially if you’re an adopted dog like Gus and London, who hit the jackpot in finding humans who choose to live here.

With so much biking, running, golfing, skiing and the like, our bodies sometimes need a little TLC. Here are the top three ways Fernie residents and visitors maintain balance.

On those rainy summer days or during a cold winter spell, Fernie takes its recreation indoors! Here are 2019's top three.

Skating/Hockey

Known for its deep powder days and great skiing, there's another fun way to explore the snow and all its winter beauty - with snowshoes! The trees covered in snow, glistening as the sun hits their surface with only the sound of your snowshoes crunching above the snow through the seemingly sleeping life of nature surrounding you. Winter brings a beautiful landscape just waiting to be discovered. Try these three snowshoe adventures for something new.

Some of us may be travelling near or far while others are staying put, opening their doors to friends and family. Whatever your plans, as the holidays unfold, everything that goes along with them tends to take precedence over our regular fitness routine.

Opportunities abound in Fernie when it comes to getting out and about with your four-legged friends. While the Nordic Centre and Golf Course are STRICTLY for Nordic Skiing ONLY do not despair.

It can be challenging to not suffer from ski town stress. How can I find balance? Will I have enough time? How can I hit the slopes today as well as the xc ski track while juggling drinks with friends, loading a posse of kids in the car and making sure everyone has BOTH skis, mitts, etc.

When it comes to setting goals or intentions that surround health and wellness, it’s incredibly important to keep them realistic and sustainable. Setting yourself up for success by doing small things each day that bring you closer to the end result, all while enjoying the process it takes to get there.
