Last week, the TransRockies Race Series announced its plans to bring back the seven-day TransRockies Classic stage mountain bike race, starting in Panorama Mountain Resort and ending in Fernie, BC. Originally called the TransRockies Challenge, it was first staged in 2002 and ran continuously through 2013 with Fernie holding either the start or finish each year. The TransRockies Classic, which will be hosted in alternating years to the Singletrack 6, features epic point-to-point crossing of the Rockies on trails, remote tracks, and forest roads, with daily distances up to 100km.

Photo by Nick Nault The Fernie Mountain Bike scene is a recreational pass time that has been on the rise for some time, with no signs of slowing down. From its early days in the 90s riding in the Educational Forest at the base of Castle Mountain, or the original Deadfall, Sidewinder and Eric’s Trail in Ridgemont, to the seemingly endless supply of trails surrounding this charming town on all sides, there is literally something for everyone and every level. Here's a little POV of me Alex Silverthorne doing my race run for the Fernie Enduro on stage 3. I ended up getting 1st in junior and 3rd Overall! Had a blast as well. See you in 2015! Also got super sketchy on the last whoops

In addition to our regular trail maintenance of our nearly 300 km of trail, the Fernie Trails Alliance has identified and committed to several large projects that will add value to our community, and help preserve the public trails we already love to inhabit. Each month I will showcase one of our projects and demonstrate the capacity of the Fernie Trails Alliance.

A few years ago Nic Genovese filmed this video for Tourism Fernie, providing a perfect glimpse of what biking in Fernie means to those that live and visit this community.
