The 7th Annual Fernie Chautauqua is a celebration of culture, heritage and community. This year's event is centered around the Fernie Museum's new exhibit, 'Women of Michel,' an art installation by four women who were born in the former nearby Mining community.

Please join the Fernie Museum, Fernie Heritage Library, Fernie Mountain Market, Fernie Artistic Guilds and a host of entertainers for a weekend of culture, entertainment and heritage. 

Please note that due to new health guidelines from the Province of BC announced on Friday, August 20th, attendance at all events will be subject to current rules and events may need to be adjusted without notice. Dual 2014 Memphis International Blues Challenge winner, Four-time JUNO nominee, multiple Maple Blues award nominee, producer and recording artist Tim Williams brings his latest tunes to Chautauqua.

Back again in September 2019 is The Fernie Fall Fair! This much loved annual event is the perfect bookend to the Fernie Chautauqua weekend and is hosted by Wildsight Elk Valley in conjunction with the Fernie Museum.

Explore Fernie's architectural gems. 7 community buildings throughout Fernie’s Heritage District will be open to the public with displays about their history and efforts to preserve their heritage in many.

Doors Open is an international event that provides free and rare access to architecturally, historically, culturally and socially significant buildings. Fernie Doors Open is hosted by Heritage Fernie.

Art On The Lawn is an opportunity for the public to experience local Fernie art, meet the artists and see them work! A truly unique experience as part of Chautauqua!

A wide variety of local artists will display their work for viewing and sale. Many of of them will demonstrate artistic techniques. There’ll be an activity for kids, too.

Join special guests Red Eyed Soul, Flatback and the two-time Juno nominated, larger than life Ndidi O for an incredible showcase of BC talent. Beer garden opens at 5:30pm, performances start at 6:00pm. The Chautauqua Grill and a variety of food trucks will be available throughout the night.

Six significant Fernie heritage buildings have recently been successful recipients of Heritage Grants funded by the Columbia Basin Trust and managed by Heritage BC. Join heritage consultant, Elana Zysblat, on a walking tour to learn about their history, evolution, a few fascinating and little known facts, and the plans for their conservation. The buildings on tour are: City Hall (former Crowsnest Pass Coal Co. headquarters), Christ Church, Holy Family Church, Fernie Courthouse, Knox United Church and the Fernie Museum (former Home Bank of Canada).
