Participants will learn how to build a quinzhee, aka Canadian snow shelter, fire building techniques in snow, along with fun games and tasty treats. While out on snowshoes, learn about winter ecology in the Elk Valley. Discover the secrets of plant and animal survival. All Wild Nature Workshops are delivered by local naturalists with proceeds being returned to environmental education programming.

On Sunday, January 12, 2020, Fernie Alpine Resort will say 'Thank You' to local communities by offering a FREE day of skiing and riding to the residents of the Elk Valley – Fernie, Elko, Elkford, Grasmere, Jaffray and Sparwood as part of the annual Community Appreciation Day.

Please note that Photo ID and proof of local residency (driver's license, pay stub, utility bill, etc.) are required to receive the lift ticket. Tickets are only valid on January 12 and snow checks will not be issued on complimentary tickets.

5th Annual Fernie on Fire Christmas tree Bonfire and fundraiser hosted by Fernie Fire Rescue.

This year they are teaming up with the Fernie Nordic Society to light up the January night sky! Come out for bbq, music, and beer gardens! Awesome raffle prizes to be had.

Enjoy your holiday season and head out on this family-friendly snowshoe on one of Fernie’s classic trails, or try the Mountain Shadows Loop in Sparwood.

Fernie is such an attractive location for families for a variety of reason, but above all else because of the opportunities and amenities available for this younger cohort (and also those young at heart). As the number of families continues to grow, so does the programming, facilities and events.

Join the Fernie Heritage Library for cider, stories, treats, and activities for all ages. This annual event is a wonderful chance to connect with your neighbours. The afternoon concludes with a rousing community Christmas carol led by local community musicians. All are welcome.
