We show up for the humans in our lives. As soon as we wake up, we are taking out our pets, making breakfast for others, organizing our day around who needs what. We support our partners, our kids, our colleagues, our family, and our friends without even giving it a second thought.

People in the Columbia Basin have expressed that they want to be able to access healthy, locally grown food. Nineteen projects will make this even more possible, supported with over $980,000 from Columbia Basin Trust’s Food Access and Recovery Grants.

The Elk Valley Suicide Task Force is offering a 2-day Mental Health 1st Air Course to all Elk Valley residents.

Available March 26th and 27th or March 28th and 29th

Registration fee is $200. Due to community support and grants they are able to offer the course for $20. To secure your spot, they kindly ask you to etransfer this to elkvalleystf@gmail.com and which dates you would like to attend.

The Fernie Trails Alliance Annual General Meeting will be held virtually March 30, 2022 at 7pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, only current FTA Fernie Trails Pass holders and member clubs will be able to vote.

Teck Resources Limited (“Teck”) announced today that its third water treatment facility, the Fording River South Active Water Treatment Facility (FRO-S AWTF), which has capacity to treat up to 20 million litres of water per day, is now operating and successfully removing selenium and nitrate from water at Teck’s operations in the upper Fording River. Commissioning of the facility was completed in December 2021 and it is now ramping up to achieve 100% of design capacity.

After a thorough analysis of our financial health in 2020 where we saw years of organizational change, gaps in policy and practice, years of staff turnover, and 5-7 years of incomplete financial information, we started 2021 by establishing a budget and work plan that refocused the City on the fundamentals. 

When it comes to handling emergency situations—such as the wildfires, floods and heat waves experienced in 2021—it’s best to be prepared. That’s why Columbia Basin Trust is supporting 13 rural and First Nations communities in the Columbia Basin to set up locations where people can gather during emergencies and disasters.
