Ramp up is the Gracie Lou Foundation's first project, seeking to radically improve downtown Fernie by making it more inclusive.

This will be achieved by the creation of portable wooden ramps, which can be stored within businesses on Main Street. Inclusion is important in welcoming people of any ability, whether that be a person with a disability, a senior citizen, parents with strollers, or anyone with limited functionality. Ramp Up is an essential and influential step in making inclusion a reality in Fernie.

Committed to safety while on and off the job, North Coal is proud to support Elk Valley Air Search and Rescue Association (EVASARA) with a $5000 donation for their plane and hanger purchase.

The Regional District of East Kootenay Board of Directors has approved funding for 144 projects around the region over the coming year.

The funding comes from Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs, which are administered by the RDEK.

Join us in these pages over the next four months as we look more closely at some of the ongoing projects.

It’s been nearly twenty-two years since that day, and our Editor was curious to see what has changed for this year’s graduates at Fernie Secondary School (FSS).
