community

I’m not sure why anyone would do this job if not for love. Love for one’s community, wanting the best for all its citizens, and a general love of people in all their varied crankiness, kindness, and complexity. This month, February, I have been in the job for just over three months.

What is love? (Besides a banger 90s hit.) It comes in so many different forms, shapes, and colours that you can put in what you like, take from it what you will, interpret and feel it depending on time of the day or where you are in your journey through life.

The popular Fernie on Fire event, Fernie’s biggest bonfire of the year, is once again taking place this January 7, 2023.

Fernie on Fire originated in 2016, when former City Counsellor Dennis Schafer approached the fire department with the idea. He had seen a similar event out east and thought it would be a good fit for Fernie.

Being active in the great outdoors is one of the pleasures of living in the Columbia Basin. Now, 16 projects including funding from the CBT to construct a covered area over Fernie's new skatepark to allow for extended-season use, will provide even more ways to stay fit and enjoy the fresh air, supported by Columbia Basin Trust.
