Past Honoured, Conserved For Future

There are many approaches used to preserve the region’s history, from installing interpretive signs or offering new museum exhibits, to creating conservation plans or training archival staff. This year, Columbia Basin Trust is supporting 43 heritage projects with over $2.8 million to support efforts to honour the past by conserving it for the future.

2019/2020 Columbia Basin Trust Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs Funding Approved

The Regional District of East Kootenay Board of Directors has approved funding for 144 projects around the region over the coming year.

The funding comes from Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs, which are administered by the RDEK.

Fernie Mural Project - Call to Columbia Basin Artists

The Fernie and District Arts Council has been awarded a Public Art Grant by the Columbia Basin Trust to add to the public art inventory of Fernie. The project will be to select and install a permanent mural in Fernie.

More Affordable Housing Options for First Nations

First Nations in the Columbia Basin have developed new and improved affordable housing options in their communities with $2.9 million in support from Columbia Basin Trust to develop 43 new affordable housing units and undertake energy retrofits and repairs on 88 existing units.

Columbia Basin Trust Cultural Tour

The Columbia Basin Culture Tour showcases art and artists in their chosen environment.

Each location will be open 10am-5pm on Saturday & Sunday, August 10 & 11 (plus regular opening hours). 

The tour is completed at your leisure and is self-directed, as well as free of charge! This event is a great opportunity to witness fine art of many different styles and to explore studios that are not normally open to the public.

New Partnership to Improve Rec Sites and Create Jobs

The Columbia Basin’s many remote recreation sites and trails are beautiful and worthy destinations. This summer up to 15 students will be hired to help improve various backcountry sites over the summer, supported by $1.5 million over three to five years from the Trust.

Transboundary Conference Scholarships Available

Improving Internet Access for People in the Kootenays

Improved high-speed internet is on the way for 26 communities in the Kootenays, bringing people opportunities to learn, connect and better expand their businesses.

Columbia Basin Broadband Corporation (CBBC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Columbia Basin Trust, is receiving $4.8 million in provincial funds for two new projects to improve broadband access in rural areas.
