In the local government world, we are missing two very important annual conferences due to Covid-19. These conferences allow us to come together in camaraderie, learn from each other and return to our respective communities energized.

The City of Fernie is pleased to announce the launch of its new online engagement platform, Let’s Talk Fernie. The community is invited to register at to share their ideas and opinions, review projects, and see the most up-to-date information on City initiatives.

If you drive enough on a provincial highway, it seems inevitable you will collide with an animal some day. And it seems everyone has a story of a near-miss, or a collision, with wildlife while driving at high speeds. Animals killed in collisions at the side of the road are commonplace along our highways.

I found myself this past week thinking a lot about the definition of civility, how tenuous it is and how our community is the owner of it. Civility can tear as easy as tissue paper.

The City of Fernie has received grant funding from the B.C. Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program to use towards completing an Active Transportation Network Plan (ATNP).

With the arrival of warmer day time temperatures and an anticipated seasonal rise in creeks and rivers, a series of self-fill sandbag stations has been established around the region.

At the Regular Meeting of Council held on May 11, 2020, City of Fernie Council approved the 2020 budget, 2020 tax rates, and Five-Year Financial Plan.

The 2020 budget is built around a zero-percent tax increase in recognition of the significant challenges our residents and businesses are facing this year.
