Bits & Bytes (deprecated)

Most of us now have at least one and possibly more wireless devices that we use regularly. At a minimum we have our cell phone connected via WiFi, but for many people all their computers and devices are run from a WiFi router. If you have a good central location for your WiFi router then there's a good chance that you can get a good signal from anywhere in the house. But what if you'd like to use your WiFi in the basement, or the garage, or out in the yard, or in a city park? Well, you may be in luck.

A couple months ago I wrote a column about using my iPhone while travelling. One of the issues I didn't discuss in the column is using your iPhone safely while travelling. We often forget in these days of hyper-connectivity that at any given moment there are thousands of bits of data flying about the ether linking you to your friends and loved ones. That data, and the data stored on your iPhone or iPad is in many cases far more important than the device itself.

Aries (March 21 - April 29) Rebirth
The New Year will be a big one for you, Aries! You are experiencing inner transformation on a large scale and are about to emerge to a new you. Be prepared for things to seem new and intimidating during the first few month of the year. It's all right, you'll still have your old wisdom with you.

THE GIFT GIVING SEASON is fast approaching. Along with socks and blenders, there’s likely to be more than a few computer related products wrapped up with colourful ribbons this month. Of course once you’ve bought the shiny new Mac, PC, iPad, etc... there’s not always a lot left over for software. So, in the spirit of giving, stuff is great, but giving free stuff is even better, here are some free games you can give along with your computer gift this year. Of course, if you’re the recipient you’re welcome to just use these suggestions for yourself too.

Aries (March 21 - April 29) Harmony
This is a time of considerable harmony for you, one where various elements in your life are flowing together smoothly. The challenge is to sustain this inner accord even when there is considerable dissonance outside of you.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20) Radiance

At 3am, even from 38,000', Japan shines brighter than a David Bowie concert. Outside it's -60C and still hours away from Hong Kong. We layover in Hong Kong for about seven hours. Almost enough time to justify pulling out Loungebuddy. Loungebuddy is not an app for finding fading Lotharios and piano players paying the rent, but rather an app that can tell you what airport lounges are available. Not just for the elite traveller anymore, many lounges are open to travellers for a fee.

Aries (March 21 - April 29) Grounding
Get grounded. Go outside and do something that centres you and connects you with the Earth. Remember that the Earth always supports you. It is important for you to do this regularly this month.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20) Power

You are learning about true power. The kind that comes from a place of compassion and respect. Tap into this energy within yourself and radiate it outwards. You'll see how your perception changes when you come from a place of true personal power.

Aries (March 21 - April 29) Passion
What are your passions? What turns you on? What ignites that inner flame, that creative spark? Open yourself to the truth of what you are passionate about and find a means to express it.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20) Sanctuary
There is a quiet, still place inside of you that will always be available as a sanctuary, yet finding such a space in the natural world will enhance and complement this internal place of peace. Let nature become a temple for your heart and soul.

This month we're going to look at the first steps to take when you think your computer may have a virus. Sometimes you'll notice that your computer is producing lots of pop-ups. Or perhaps you find your searches are no longer going to google.com, but somewhere else. Perhaps you've noticed that bookmarks that used to work don't work any longer. Or perhaps you're seeing toolbars at the top of your browser that you don't remember installing. It's time to take action.
