This summer, July 5-7 the 2nd Annual Arthur Sombrowski Memorial Doubles Tournament took place, with 60 players enjoying competitive doubles tennis to remember and celebrate Arthur and raise awareness for BC organ and tissue donation. QR codes were available court side where people could sign up as a donor on the spot. The tournament also raised funds for equipment for Fernie Sports Co. as per Arthur’s wishes.
With multiple categories, players as young as 8 and as wise as over 70 were able to compete. Organizers would like to thank the generous businesses who donated items for the silent auction, the Fernie Academy, and the volunteers, players and ball boys/girls. A special mention to Jocelyn Sombrowski, who was instrumental in the event’s success, as well co-host Just Rosie Bookkeeping.
Next year, the tournament is moving to the first weekend after Canada Day and they hope to see you there!
