Join local creative and all-around fantastic person, Rivka Landsberg, at The Arts Station on Friday, September 22nd at 3pm for an afternoon of skateboard deck painting in preparation for the Wheelie Out Skate Jam! This event is free and is for those aged 12-18. Limited to 18 people. Registration includes skateboard deck, paint, and pizza. Just bring your ideas, creativity, and fabulous selves!

If you wish to ride your skateboard upon completion, please note that wheels and bearings are not included - just the deck!

It always intrigues me how sometimes things so obviously align... like they are meant to be. 

I’ve known Sonia Roy for years, but not the full extent of her reach within our community, especially when it comes to music. One day as I was leaving Freshies, ruminating on content for our upcoming edition, an individual got my attention to recommend we feature Sonia. Just a week or two later while I was reading through our 200th issue survey results, again she was recommended. “Well,” I thought. “I guess I should have coffee with Sonia!”

The 88 Keys Grand Piano Society is excited to welcome back their favourite concert performer, Jesse Plessis. Mark your calendars for Friday, September 15th at 7:00pm, at the Mountainside Community Church.

The Fernie Snowmobile Association are starting the day off with a Firewood WorkB event to stock the cabins with wood for the winter.

Volunteers receive a $25 credit towards their membership or day passes AND a complimentary ticket to the Film Night and BBQ event in the evening.

Funding has been announced for rural communities and areas in the Columbia Basin—encompassing 5,429 homes—to create access to high-speed Internet. This new multi-year, $82-million project is being funded by the federal and provincial governments, the regional districts of Central Kootenay, Columbia Shuswap, Kootenay Boundary, East Kootenay and Columbia Basin Trust.

A new event combining the communities of Elkford, Fernie & Sparwood through the entire Elk Valley.

Mountain bike, road bike, run or even walk the distance from Elkford to Sparwood and then on to Fernie. Go the full distance, go half the distance, do whatever you want on September 16th. They just want you to participate and support the Elkford, Sparwood and Fernie trail networks.

Experience the beauty of early Fall in Fernie! Walk the trails and explore the uses and benefits of Elk Valley plant life with local Metis nature experts.

Participation is FREE, but donations to the Fernie Museum are welcome. The Fernie Museum presents this guided nature walk as part of their programming for Into the Weeds, a multi-media art show by Liza Gareau Tosh, currently on display in their upstairs gallery.
