Hot Dogin to Pedalin at Fernie Alpine Resort

One of my favourite weeks of the ski season has come and gone, and it was definitely one for the books.

The brain child of Kieran Summers, (many that know him refer to him as the godfather of Hot Dog Day), this popular event began roughly 13-14 years ago when a he decided to get a crew together to mimic those donning the screens in classic ski movies such as Hot Dog the Movie and Aspen Extreme. Not surprisingly, the trend gained momentum and years later it continues to be a highlight of the winter season.

Not even rain could deter this year's crowd, smiling faces, hilarious outfits, and even a flash mob (video on main page) made for an awesome Hot Dog Day in 2012.

After two days of recovery, we were set for another classic event at Fernie Alpine Resort - the PPP (Powder, Pedal, Paddle... and Run!). The trophy, given to the fastest team, dates back to 1984 and is a pretty cool legacy of nearly 20 years of skiers, bikers, paddlers and runners to have kicked some PPP butt.

The Gong Show are this year's winners, on a two year streak.

This year the fastest female team was to be awarded cat skiing - a prize alternating between men and women's teams. Abi Moore of Fernie Brewing Company and I had been competing mixed the last few years, and decided to go for it. Lenka Hawrys "came out of retirement" for the occasion, and PPP gurus Roxanne Esch and Sanne Vanderros came on board to kayak. What an awesome team, coming in third overall and taking first place and catskiing at Island Lake.

We are super stoked to be among the many women to have competed in the PPP, and talking with yearly competitor and multiple-time winner Lynn Muller we thought it would be cool to put together a list of all women's teams to have won the PPP. And maybe, just maybe we'll have a "champagne" cup to commemorate this legacy.

Thanks Fernie Alpine Resort for an amazing week, watch for full results to be posted this week!
