Get Your Geek On

Monday's are tricky especially when chances of frostbite the other side of the duvet are ripe. But not only is it the day I loose my mind trying to get into spin class, it's the day I get my inner Gleek on which pumps me up somewhat. And I don't mean the show. In fact I've never watched Glee, but I take "gleek" to mean a vague musical moment, with drama, excitement, tight clothing and some award winning performances.

Fernie's version? May I present to you The Fernie Chamber Orchestra. We are an eclectic mix of individuals, encompassing a wide range of ages and accents, with a slightly smaller variety of instruments - who knew so many people played the violin in this town? But it's fun and strangely revitalizing and I can be a musical geek amongst geeks, with no worries of having my hair pulled by the cool kids at the back. Play an instrument (ideally other than the violin)? Then swing by the gallery upstairs from the Fernie Museum Monday's at 7pm and see what it's all about. You'll hear us before you see us. I'm positive we sound great, but this is one activity the dog can't partake in. In fact I'd go as far as saying he's near on suicidal at the sight of it. He's just not cultured.

But we are cultured. Perhaps think of us as the Pussycat Dolls, but with more thermals and snow boots and less Lycra and heels. But just give us time, you never know what a few eggnogs might do to us this Christmas season...
