Canada Day Weekend in Fernie

Just what is so great about Canada Day Weekend in Fernie? Where do we begin...

It all starts off with the Furious3 Mountain Bike race. This event is in its second year and draws mountain bike enthusiasts from near and far to Fernie's renowned singletrack. From locals enjoying their first race experience, to national athletes such as Melanie McQuaid and Mical Dyck pushing their limits, it's exciting to say the least and takes Fernie by storm.

If downhill is more your speed, it just so happens that Fernie Alpine Resort is hosting its opening weekend, which includes the new Aerial Playground and Ziplines!

The activities continue with the 9th Annual Lizard Range Disc Golf Tournament taking place at Fernie's own beautiful course located in James White Park. A fun event for all levels, complete with post tournie celebrations at El Guapo.

Sunshine and disc golf by the Elk River... a lovely way to spend a day!

If it's scorching hot and you need a dip, take my lead and head to the lake! I personally have a sweet spot for Rosen but Koocanusa is a pretty popular destination, as is Silver Springs, and all are close to town!

And when it comes down to the big birthday celebrations, the City of Fernie, Chamber of Commerce and Fernie Mountain Market put on an incredible show, each year surpassing the last. Live music (including Shred Kelly), an array of activities for kids, refreshment gardens, local vendors, fireworks.... it all takes place at Prentice Park next to the Fernie Secondary School, and it's a great way to celebrate.
