Dealing with Sore Muscles
The first day of the ski season is usually followed by sore muscles. Even those of us who have trained diligently at the gym to get ready for the winter season often find muscle soreness after day one on the slopes, though usually for a much smaller duration. Here are a few tips to help you out.

Let me tell a story.
A couple weeks ago while getting ready to take a vacation, a friend decided to bleach his well. The once every six months or so cleansing of the water. He dosed it good, waited and started the well back up. Nothing. He reset the motor. Nothing. He heard the solenoid click, but no motor, no water.
Island Lake Lodge: the cookbook
I buy books for Christmas presents. Always and for everybody. Whenever possible, I stick to Canadian books. For the price of a decent bottle of wine, a book gives the recipient an art object, hours of entertainment, inspiration, a space for productive introspection, a cast of imaginary friends, and an excuse to spend the day curled up by the fire.
December Horoscopes
The Fairies believe that every living thing should be taught the healing medicine of animals. For the Anniversary of the Fernie Fix the Fairies wanted you to get to know an animal that is within you. These provide insight and understanding of your true self. Please remember that you have more than just this animal within. Happy Anniversary!

The Informant
The American film industry has produced many films about corporate and political corruption and the brave men and women who fight against it. From Eight Days of the Condor to The Insider, Silkwood to Michael Clayton, all of these films feature protagonists who worked for truth and justice, and who, while flawed, are still likeable, and the kind of people you want to cheer for.

Favourite Fix Moments
I have to say that my favourite Fix moment was the very first one that I picked up, which was the very first one that was published. It was filled with a sense of possibility and excitement—which is a real reflection of the town in which it was born. I don’t know if Krista and Vanessa knew that they were embarking on the adventure of a lifetime when they started out, but they must by now. At three years old, the Fix has started to form its very own personality, and it has been fun to watch it grow.

CADS Ski System
I recently read a feature in the Fernie Fix which made me think about the difficulty some people face in pursuing their passions when your body is no longer in optimal form. About three years ago that was where I was.

1. You'll never fit in! Now you come to elf practice, learn how to wiggle your ears, chuckle warmly, go hee-hee and ho-ho, and important stuff like that. A dentist! Good grief!
Stress and Adrenal Glands
“Adrenal fatigue” is a condition that, although addressed by many naturopathic doctors, is not frequently treated by conventional practitioners.
A Long Winter Nap
The last leaf has fallen, winter is just around the corner, the bears are moving on to their winter dens and the Bear Aware Program will be coming to an end for the season. Thank you to everyone who has supported the Bear Aware Program by volunteering, managing attractants responsibly, calling in bear sightings which enable us to direct educational activities, and providing financial and/or in-kind support for the program.
Recovery Prospects
Provided by East Kootenay Community Credit Union
Signs of economic recovery are emerging after one of the most severe financial crisis in decades. The strength and durability of any recovery are natural concerns given the depth and breadth of the recession and on its policy-driven sources. For example what happens when some fiscal stimulus expires? Will the economy generate self-sustaining growth? Is a fallback into recession, the double-dip recession, likely? Closer to home, how are the East Kootenays faring and what are its recovery prospects?
Turning Dreams into Reality
It started out as an idea, let’s take the winters off and soak up the sun. Steph and I traveled many places trying to find that perfect tropical destination for our “winters”. Our friend Chicken had doing some research on great places to invest in Central America and let us know about some incentives and tax breaks available to foreign investors in Panama.
