Snowshoe Adventures Not to Miss

Known for its deep powder days and great skiing, there's another fun way to explore the snow and all its winter beauty - with snowshoes! The trees covered in snow, glistening as the sun hits their surface with only the sound of your snowshoes crunching above the snow through the seemingly sleeping life of nature surrounding you. Winter brings a beautiful landscape just waiting to be discovered. Try these three snowshoe adventures for something new.
Fairy Creek Falls - 2kms
A popular and short snowshoe to a cascading waterfall, perfect for a little trek or family outing.
Start your adventure from behind the Fernie Chamber of Commerce following the trail into the trees, snowshoeing up the switchbacks. You'll pass by the famous bath tub then continue across the landscape heading back into the forest.
The sounds of water begin to get closer as you make your way alongside the flowing Fairy Creek river. As you round the corner, the frozen falls are revealed in all their beauty.
Island Lake Lodge - 8kms
Snowshoe amongst the huge Cedar trees to a beautiful wooden backcountry lodge that primarily offers catskiing to its guests in the winter.
Begin your adventure at the lower parking lot of Island Lake, starting on the cross country trail. Follow the trail as you meet the road and then join back onto the cross country trail. Snowshoe beside the old Sawmill as the peaks of the Lizard Range begin to peak through. (If you're looking for a little extra adventure, dip into the Old Growth Trail for some deep, snowy goodness.)
You'll eventually join back with the road as you continue your climb towards the lodge. From the lodge you can snowshoe down to the lake and take in the stunning vista featuring the Three Bears.
If you're looking to skip the snowshoe or to add to your adventure, consider booking a two-course Winter Lunch! This can include a snowcat ride to the lodge. Advance bookings are required.
Silver Springs Lake - 1.5 kms
Extend your snowshoe adventures and hit the road! A short drive west to the town of Elko provides access to this worthwhile hike, providing a glimpse at a busy summer spot in its winter slumber.
The trail begins from the designated parking lot, catching gain in a short distance. Pass the powerline and continue up. You'll eventually arrive at the top of the jumping rocks, where summer enthusiasts take to the waters.
Relax and enjoy a wintery picnic or further your snowshoe adventure and continue on to the second and third lake.
