Events Are Back

As we move into Step 3 of BC’s Restart, we are able to host some fun events again on our trails! Some new and old favourites are back.
Two years in the making the Fernie Gravel Grind (FGG) is all set to kick off Sept 17-19. Last year the event ran virtually and was a great success donating $6,144.35 to the Fernie Trails Alliance. This year, the weekend starts on Friday night with registration sign in and an Industry night. The FGG race begins on Saturday morning. Riders have the option to ride either the Big or Small loop. The Big loop will challenge racers with a beast of a climb to the summit of Morrissey Ridge and some fast gravel descending. The total loop is 60km with 1150m of gain. The Small loop is suitable for those just getting into adventure racing. There are some great views and challenges in this 38km and 500m gain course.
Our Member Club, Fernie Mountain Bike Club (FMBC) will be serving up some old classics including Project 9 on Sept 9 and Dirt Diggler on Sept 11. The popular High Roller will be back at the end of September or early October. Stay tuned for the confirmed date and route.
Lone Wolf
Loop Time: 45 mins - 1 hour
Distance: 6.8 km
Difficulty: Blue
The loop will be washing-machine style, heading clockwise, then counter clockwise, then clockwise and so on. Racers need to make it back to base before the hour cut off, and be ready to start the loop again, on the hour. If racers miss the cut off, they’re out and remain in the den.
Stag Leap Running Co., another one of our Member Clubs, hosts the popular Lone Wolf running race on September 25-26. This “Last Man Standing” race format is on a beautiful singletrack loop with a moderate elevation gain of 210m in 6.8 kms.
Give this loop a go and get ready for September or just get out there and have some fun!
