Summer in Fernie and mountain biking go hand in hand. As the snow melts, bikes of all shapes and sizes appear in droves on the streets and trails. The mountain biking here is plentiful and diverse, from family friendly flowy trails to technical cross country, downhill, and big-air flow trails.
Fernie Alpine Resort’s Bike Park includes one chairlift that will get you up the mountain without breaking a sweat and allows you to get in multiple downhill laps in during the day. This summer, the Elk Chairlift will operate daily allowing bikers access to the majority of the resort trails, and caters to novice, intermediate and advanced riders. You’ll notice a number of changes at the resort this summer to keep guests and staff healthy and safe - please read and follow signs, and follow instructions from staff.
Most of all - be kind, calm, and patient, and enjoy the fresh mountain air!
This month, we will highlight a trail suited to the novice rider - Deer Trail. For details on all 34 trails, please visit skifernie.com
Novice - Deer Trail
Style - Freeride
Distance / Elevation - 2419 metres /
283 metre descent
From the top of the Elk Chairlift, ride past the Bear’s Den area, following the signs to the entrance to Deer Trail. The first section
is a wide connector trail with a fairly gentle grade, taking you to an access style road which traverses the lower mountain. Follow the road, and after passing under the Deer Chair, you reach the fun stuff. The trail becomes a wide, machine-made flow trail that meanders through the forest with small berms and rollers. The final section pops out into the open, and then into one last small tree island to finish.
