The Season of Tabata

I love you December. The snow is falling and the rum nogs are flowing. The decorations are hung while the hunt for the perfect tree is well underway. The town is buzzing and the stoke level is high with the chatter of epic days last season and guesses as to what this year’s will be.

Some of us may be travelling near or far while others are staying put, opening their doors to friends and family. Whatever your plans, as the holidays unfold, everything that goes along with them tends to take precedence over our regular fitness routine. A gentle reminder that ‘doing something is better than nothing’ allows you to feel good about not prioritizing fitness over family and friends and that getting out of routine can be nice for the right reasons. So this month, wherever you are, enjoy the time spent with family and friends, make sure you get outside, embrace Winter and when you have time, try this spicy little Tabata style workout that can be done anywhere with no equipment required.

Bonus points if you invite your friends and family to a pre-holiday dinner sweat session.

Fun fact: Tabata interval training is working hard for 20s followed by 10s rest repeated eight times. This was popularized by a Japanese scientist, Dr. Izumi Tabata. The workout below is a variation of this style in which you should be fatigued within a short amount of time.
