Derby Girl of the Month – Crack’Her Jax #7, Avalanche City Roller Girls
You know that feeling you get when you light a firecracker and run away anticipating it going off? That’s pretty much how everyone on the derby track feels when Jax lines up on the jammer line. She’s so full of spark and rage her team wears fire retardant clothing. Teams be warned - Jax comes from the land down under, which explains a lot. While she’s nice as pie, she’ll flip you backwards with her booty blocks and scorch your hair with just a glare.
Jax will be playing hard on home turf this Saturday August 4 in the East Kootenay Semi Finals at the Fernie Memorial Arena. Tickets available at Freyja, online at East KootenayRollerDerby.com and at the door. Refreshment Garden. Children under six are free, doors open at 5pm. Details at eastkootenayrollerderby.com.

Red Wine Fudgesicles
Sometimes while cruising through the Internet you come across something that completely blows your mind, drops your jaw, something completely awesome. Here’s a recent discovery.
Red Wine Fudgesicles - abeautifulmess.typepad.com
1 cup red wine,
1 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1 1/2 cup milk.
In a small pot simmer the wine over low/medium heat for 12-18 minutes, allowing it to reduce. Remove from heat and whisk in the chocolate until completely melted. Stir in milk. Pour into your popsicle tray and freeze over night. (Note: you can use milk instead of wine for regular fudgesicles.)
Makes 4-6 popsicles depending on tray size.
