To Infinitea and Beyond
As Fernie’s newest, hippest joint, Infinitea T-Bar and Boutique has spent the past winter finding its groove and this summer, has a playbook of events that reads like an issue of Rolling Stone magazine. Nestled in the historic Royal Hotel next to the friendly, lively Royal bar, Infinitea offers a unique repertoire of musical talents set to the tune of casual, family-style food with a backbeat of colourful, warm décor.
With little more than an idea and a lot of passion, Coralee and Steph opened this funky, 35-seat venue as an alternative to late-night bars and formal locales in December 2012. The aim was to create a place where everyone would feel welcome - you can sip tea or martini, and you’ll be as comfortable bringing your granny or your kids as you would your favourite girls or a hot date. The result is a success; from casual family-friendly sing-a-longs to poetry readings and blues recitals, this is a place where music and all things musical are the order of the day. The air is punctuated by exotic spice notes and the walls practically sing with bright, inspirational artwork from local and exotic artists.
In August, Infinitea’s offerings include daily features such as Monday’s Tarot readings and Saturday’s food and drink specials. On Sundays, drop by for the $10 BBQ dinner; following the success of the ‘Sunday Roast’ during the winter, a summer BBQ was a no-brainer says co-owner Coralee, who speaks enthusiastically about the brand new summer menu. “We really wanted to give a unique twist to the old favourites,” she explained, “and we prepare as much as possible in house - from slow roasted peppers to our own special tatziki sauce.” Make sure to try the Infinitea nachos prepared with chickpeas and feta, or get creative with the Build-Your-Own-Pita. To wash it all down, the summer cocktail menu is sure to be a smash hit, featuring a selection of iced coffees and iced teas with the same, special Infinitea twist. As well as offering their daily menu, Infinitea loves to play host and the space is available for private bookings, weddings, special events, and even catering.
On Wednesdays, local and visiting writers can exercise their literary muscles on Spoken Word Night, where local writer Keith Liggett hosts an eclectic mix of poetry, prose and heartfelt words. Local musical talent has a chance to shine every Friday - don’t miss the opportunity to see Fernie’s future stars hit their first high notes. A street-side patio is expected to be installed by August and will be a great addition to the range of outdoor spots in beautiful historic downtown Fernie to grab a bite or drink with friends. There’s no doubt that this family-friendly venue offering live music and everything from cookery to hula-hoop classes is a welcome addition to the eclectic 2nd Avenue vibe, and yet that’s not even the full extent of their attraction.
In addition to the regular weekly offerings, a stellar line-up of visiting artists for the summer music program will provide even more good times and inspirational sounds. On Saturday 3rd, Wade Rimstad takes to the stage with upbeat, guitar-strumming funky tunes. On Friday 9th, the ever popular John Kirby returns to Fernie to entertain his newest fans. Alexander McCowan’s deep, rumbling sound will fill the room with popular and evocative music on Monday 12th when he brings the ‘Present Times’ tour to Fernie. Silva Sound round out the month’s special guests on Thursday 29th with the mystical symphony of late summer in the form of ‘druidic dub.’ To keep track of everything going on at Infinitea, ‘like’ its page at Facebook.com/InfinteaTBarBoutique.
And while Infintea could certainly keep you busy all month long, there’s plenty of other events to keep you entertained in August.
