First Teck Kootenay Cup Races of the Season To Be held at Elk Valley Nordic Centre
The Fernie Nordic Society is hosting the Teck Kootenay Cup this year and would like to invite members of the community to participate! This will be an amazing and fun-filled weekend running December 30 and 31. While the Teck Kootenay Cup was created to promote and support competitive activities for youth in Nordic skiing, each race welcomes skiers of all ages and abilities to participate… and even win points for Fernie's local club! For every skier who registers as a member of the Fernie Nordic Society and crosses the finish line, our club earns two points toward winning the overall Teck Kootenay Cup!
Your registration gets you the race of your choice, a beautiful free lunch, professional course creation, and timing. The Classic Ski Technique will be used on the Saturday with the Free Technique (either skate or classic) being offered on the Sunday. Tickets to a delicious dinner at the Red Tree can also be purchased upon registration. The event includes qualification trials for the BC Winter Games so come and see some of the best young skiers in Canada racing!
The Teck Kootenay Cup will be held at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre, 3 km SW from West Fernie bridge on Highway 3. Located on Mount Fernie Provincial Park road makes parking very limited at the trails. There is parking in the Park (first left after the entrance sign) and more parking is provided on the streets of the adjacent Cedars development. Walking trails link parking with the Nordic Centre.
Registration and fee payment is done online by credit card only at www.zone4.ca and is open until Wednesday, December 27 at 11pm (MST). For more information please visit the Fernie Nordic Centre website where you will find a schedule of events, other helpful links, and you can purchase your membership or day pass while you’re there!
