Fernie on Fire 2023

The popular Fernie on Fire event, Fernie’s biggest bonfire of the year, is once again taking place this January 7, 2023.
Fernie on Fire originated in 2016, when former City Counsellor Dennis Schafer approached the fire department with the idea. He had seen a similar event out east and thought it would be a good fit for Fernie.
“Natural Christmas trees dry out and once they become dry are a terrible fire hazard. Any spark or source of heat, like from a malfunctioning bulb on the light string, can cause a tree fire more than capable of igniting the home. It’s kind of shocking,” says Trevor Fairweather, City of Fernie
Everyone is welcome to Fernie on Fire, to enjoy music, a BBQ, hot chocolate, adult beverages and warm up by the fire. This year donations will be collected for various local charities! If you live in Ridgemont, Maintown, the Annex or the Airport, you can place your tree on the curb prior to 8am on January 7 for pickup by the Fernie Fire Rescue. For anyone living outside of these areas, you can either bring your tree to burn at 5:30pm at the Fernie Aquatic Centre on January 7 or starting January 2 you can drop trees off at the Temporary Fire Hall in the City of Fernie’s Public Works Yard on Railway Avenue.
Fernie on Fires runs from 5:30 to 11pm we hope to see you there!
