100 Women Who Care Fernie Celebrates 8th Successful Giving Event Supports Two Local Grassroots Organizations

Fernie, BC - June 10, 2024 - 100 Women Who Care Fernie proudly announces a significant milestone in its mission to support local grassroots organizations. Since its inception in December 2020, the group has organized eight Giving Events, raising over $73,000 to benefit Fernie and surrounding communities.

At each Giving Event, members of 100 Women Who Care Fernie have but one goal, to make a tangible impact in their community. Members nominate local grassroots causes, and six are drawn from a hat and pitched at the event. Attendees then select their top two choices, and the two organizations with the most votes split all proceeds raised.

The organizers are constantly amazed by the group's incredible generosity and dedication. With individual donations of $100, they've collectively funneled thousands back into local grassroots organizations, making an impact and supporting the ongoing delivery of important services in our community.

During the June 6th Giving Event, members rallied behind two notable initiatives: Cycling Without Age and the Elk Valley Suicide Task Force. Each organization received a generous donation of $3,400, further bolstering their ability to make a difference in our community.

Cycling Without Age is a valued community initiative that offers free bike rides to seniors and individuals with limited mobility, promoting inclusivity and social connection. With the support of 100 Women Who Care Fernie, they can continue expanding their fleet of trishaws, getting residents outside to enjoy our beautiful mountain town.

The Elk Valley Suicide Task Force is dedicated to providing essential mental health support, education, and resources to reduce stigma and prevent suicide in the region. The funds received will enable them to extend their outreach efforts and enhance mental health programs for those in need.

This Giving Event was made extra special through the support of local businesses Castle on 1st, Fernie Catering Co., Lush Kootenay, Patti’s Party Tent Rentals, SOAR Studios and Gabbi Escobar Film & Digital Photography.

The impact of 100 Women Who Care Fernie goes beyond monetary donations. By fostering a spirit of giving and community engagement, the group has created a ripple effect of positivity throughout Fernie.  You’re invited to their next Giving Event, taking place November 7th.  For more information, visit www.100wwcfernie.ca.
