Where to Stay

One of the first decisions when planning your vacation or visit to Fernie is where to stay. Does staying on the hill or in town better suit your needs? Is your group large enough that a house rental is the best option? Do you need to be within walking and biking distance from any specific areas or landmarks?

Fortunately there is a plethora of hotels, motels, chalets, condos and houses available for you to peruse (visit our Accommodation Guide), and if you’re short of time consider working with one of the companies specializing in this area.

Jeremiah Pauw, Super 8 Fernie

We came to Fernie in 2008 looking for a good place to raise our young family. Our background was working in the oil patch but with our growing family it became necessary to change our lifestyle. Born and raised in Banff I really wanted to get back to the mountains. Ferine fit the bill perfectly. We bought the Super 8 and moved to town.

It was a big move, as we had absolutely no experience in the hotel industry or even owning a business. Over the past four years we have concentrated on getting our business up to our standards, renovating guest rooms, common areas and the exterior of the hotel. There were a little of little and a few big bumps along the road, but four years later our business is thriving and I think we have gotten the hang of it.

As a family we love the outdoor active lifestyle Fernie has afforded us. You can find my wife at Fernie Old School Boxing and kickboxing with Fernie Martial Arts. I love to take the kids skiing at Fernie Alpine Resort or swimming at the Aquatic Centre. Summer in Fernie is equally awesome. We enjoy the copious amount of mountain biking and hiking choices that we have in the valley.  After a day of adventure a barbeque with friends makes for a perfect day.

We have truly fallen in love with Fernie and everything it has to offer. There is a delightful community here and we have been warmly accepted into this wonderful place. I truly believe we could not have made a better choice.
