Diary of a Race
Fernie Seniors Centre, 562 3rd Ave

This summer local resident Lucy Eykamp challenged one of bike packing’s most prestigious races - the Tour Divide. Beginning in Banff, AB June 9, 2023, Lucy was one of 200 participants at the startline, and one of 20 Women and non-binary riders.

The race runs from Banff, Canada to Antelope Wells on the US-Mexican border, following the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route with athletes riding completely self-supported. On average, the time to complete this route is three weeks, being known as one of the most challenging mountain bike time trials out there. Lucy reached Antelope Wells on July 4, capturing 11th with the most female finishers the event has ever had. 25 days of ups and downs and in her own words, “by far the hardest, most difficult and challenging adventure I have taken on.”

Lucy is sharing her journey with our community to inspire and encourage others to push and believe in themselves. All are welcome to a Diary of a Race at the Fernie Seniors Centre, October 13 from 6:30-8pm.
