New Ownership at The Green Petal Brings Fresh Perspective

Kim Larsen, landscape gardener and all-around plant enthusiast is the new owner at The Green Petal in Fernie. Larsen grew up on a farm in central Alberta and spent most of her childhood immersed in nature. After attaining her journeyman certificate in landscape gardening from Olds College she worked for a few years in design, plant and tree care. She and her family moved to Fernie in 2009. A mother of four sons and a preschool teacher, Larsen found herself looking for a new challenge once her sons reached school age.

The Green Petal is an established business that was founded by the previous owner in 2010 and is a popular destination in downtown Fernie. “The opportunity to own the Green Petal was a perfect fit. I am overjoyed to play in the dirt again while potting plants and coming home smelling of eucalyptus.” says Larsen. Buying a business during a pandemic comes with its challenges but Larsen believes it worked in her favour. She was able to get used to the day to day operations of the business before once again opening the doors to the public. She also feels it gave her an opportunity to network in the community and began relationship building with the support of other Fernie businesses during the down time.
