Elk Valley Hospice

Elk Valley Hospice believes that death is a natural part of the cycle of life, and that everyone has the right to die with dignity, in as pain-free of a manner as possible, and in a place of their choosing, surrounded by loved ones, as the patient desires.

Elk Valley Hospice is also a very active hospice society in the Elk Valley and believes that no one should face life ending experiences or grief alone. As such, they have created an annual Hike for Hospice event, the First Annual taking place May 26 starting at the Montane Parking lot at 9:30am. Help to promote the importance of hospice care and raise much needed funds for end-of-life care and grief support for our community. Join a team or join as an individual! Hikers of all ages and abilities as well as their beloved four-legged friends are encouraged to participate.

Dog Partners and K9 Dog Training – Dog Talk

Two of your local dog trainers, Valerie Barry of Dog Partners Training and Katie Guille of Project K9 Dog Training, have started running a regular new series of events called “Dog Talk - Fernie” hosted and supported by Barkside Pets. Valerie and Katie are professionally certified, experienced dog trainers specializing in behaviour.

Dog Talk is a series of 60-minute discussions about various dog training and behaviour topics of interest to the people in our community and surrounding areas.  The intent is to give insight into why dogs do what they do! They discuss dog behaviour and training, provide suggestions and recommendations, and strategies for prevention and management. Future topic suggestions welcome!

The next session is Monday, May 13 at 6:30 pm at Barkside Pets in Fernie.  The topic is: “’Come!’ Training a Successful Recall.” Half of the proceeds will be donated to the Fernie Trails Alliance.
