Fernie Heritage Library
492 3rd Ave 250-423-4458

The Fernie Heritage Library (FHL) is excited to share new programs and events taking place this spring at the library.

In April, FHL launched Council Reads. Monthly, members of the City of Fernie Council will share what they are reading alongside comments on the book and why they recommend it. If you’re interested in reading one (or all) of these books, they will be available at the library.

In May FHL is celebrating Local Government Awareness week, with two special events. Mayor Nic Milligan will be a special guest reader at Story Time, and there will also be a social and movie evening with the Council and Mayor. Stay up to date with all events by following them on Facebook and Instagram, or by visiting fernie.bc.libraries.coop.

Fernie Horticultural Supply
ferniehortsupply.ca

In its second year, Fernie Horticultural Supply (FHS) is introducing an easier way to shop for landscaping plants – online from the comfort of your own backyard.

“A lot of people are using social media or online sources for inspiration to landscape their yards.  But there’s often a disconnect between what we see online and what is available and hardy in our tough Fernie climate,” says co-owner Felina Arsenault.

By using the FHS website, homeowners and landscapers can search for specific interests like “pink shrub” or “fall colour” and be offered a selection of perennials, shrubs and trees that are curated for success in our climate and available for purchase.

“If you see something you like,” says Arsenault “you can purchase it online and collect it at the farm, usually the same day.”

If you prefer to browse the plants or need help making selections, the farm is open by appointment.

Young Entrepreneur Adventure Camp
Business skills are something that are lacking in elementary education. While running a business does come with risk, the rewards of creating income from ideas and passion are worth it. You need leadership, creativity, drive, and persistence to run a business – all important life skills children should learn.

The Young Entrepreneur Adventure Camp will teach children business basics, and to come up with a product that they will then sell at the Fernie Mountain Market, where they will put their newfound skills to use! Mornings will be all business, and afternoons will be spent adventuring around Fernie: frolfing, biking, hiking, and more. Lindsay is an elementary/high school teacher in the Elk Valley, looking to give kids a fun, real-world experience.

The camp will run July 11-14, plus Market Day on the 16. Cost is $275 for the week. Ages 9 – 11. Please contact Lindsay at lindsaysnea@gmail.com for more details.
