May 2021 Business News
Birdhouse Roofing Ltd is owned and managed by Derek Bird and Lynn Henderson. Derek started his roofing career in Whistler in 1995. A year later, Derek moved to Fernie and continued to be a roofer before starting Birdhouse Roofing in 2003.
This year is going to be one of the most uncertain years we have faced. Suppliers have warned of materials shortages and more price increases. At Birdhouse, they are planning ahead and urging clients to confirm as early as possible to secure the materials needed for their project.
Their schedule is filling up fast. If you are considering a new roof this season, contact them today.

Saying a triumphant good-bye to single-use plastics, FBC celebrated spring with the release of their new, recyclable packaging line.
Committed to making positive, sustainable changes from Brewery to Tasting Room and beyond, all six-packs are switching over to colourful, recyclable cartons; while their four-packs now use reusable PakTech carriers, made from recycled milk jugs and 100% post-consumer waste.
Local? Be sure to hit up their new Take Back Program on FBC PakTech carriers. You can return them to the Brewery for a $0.10 credit, to be sanitized and reused.
These changes alone will help FBC keep 5,700lbs of plastics from entering landfills annually. That’s a change you can cheers to! ferniebrewing.com

Fernie Freestyle would like to acknowledge and thank Troy Nixon, outgoing President since 2017. Troy’s passion and dedication has been instrumental in getting Fernie Freestyle to the energetic, organized, and competitive Club it is currently. Troy’s motto has always been, “Friends, Fun and Fitness” which is evident in the spirit of the Club and is something athletes have significantly benefitted from.
Also, a big thank you to outgoing Treasurer Mike Holub who has been diligently keeping the books since 2017.
With the growth of the Club, Fernie Freestyle is excited to announce a full-time, year-round position of Program Director and Head Coach with Chris Ebbern. Huguette M. Forest-Coultry
Mike (Huguette M. Forest-Coultry) and her family have been a part of the Fernie community since the 1980’s. Nature has continually impacted her writings and viewpoints. Some pieces are stark or subtle, some are meditative and soul-searching. Each one invites the reader to their own interpretation.
This is how she describes Journeying the Waters: A Book of Poetry and Prose.
“From the anguish and hopes of adolescence and adulthood to the peaceful understanding that the years may bring, these narratives allow for the recollection and reflection of past memories and the creation of wondrous new ones.
This is the story of our search for light, joy, enthusiasm and optimism. It welcomes us to examine our relationship to the world and to one another.” You can access her site at jtwquest.com. Should you have any questions or remarks to share please email Mike at firstname.lastname@example.org.
