July 2014 Business
Emily Brydon Youth Foundation
The Emily Brydon Youth Foundation has been in operation for over eight years, and is currently planning the 9th Annual Emily Brydon Youth Foundation Golf Tournament held each September. Money raised from this tournament and donations received from individuals and businesses within the community go towards the youth of the Elk Valley and their pursuits in sports, arts and education.
The Emily Brydon Youth Foundation would like to thank the Elk Valley Community for its continual support, which has grown alongside the foundation. Over the last year, EBYF has had the opportunity to process over 80 applications, 12 of these being team applications, and donate $45,000. This year, EBYF is grateful to have received $16,000 in unsolicited community donations. This support means a lot to the organization and its members, as it has resulted in continual growth and impact.

Fernie Arts Station
The Arts Station is thrilled to showcase Out of The Box: A Dumpster Art Project on Sunday, July 6 as part of Community Art Day. This all-ages event will add colour to Station Square from noon to 4pm. Out of the Box is a public art initiative by the City of Fernie and in collaboration with volunteers, Southeast Disposal and The Arts Station. Join the nine selected artists on Sunday and watch their artistic visions come to life! Also, remember to vote for your favorite dumpster and help someone win the cash prize of $500 for People’s Choice.
Other activities include trucker hat painting, button making, graffiti canvas creating and the chance to contribute to the Community Dumpster – a special bin set aside for everyone to make their artistic mark on!
Once completed the bins will be placed around Victoria Avenue as well as the Highway 3 corridor. For more information contact email@example.com or 250-423-4842.
Fernie School Aged Care
Max Turyk Community Centre
Fernie School Aged Care (FSAC) has received the 2014 childcare award for excellence in innovation by going above and beyond the expectations for an after-school club.
Some of the outstanding factors that contributed to the decision were the experiences that are given to children in order to support their growth and curiosity. These are everyday experiences in the room and playground as well as organized field trips throughout the community during camps and full days. FSAC 's commitment to growth in early childhood education was also recognized.
