100 Women Who Care Fernie
100wwcfernie.ca
The first ever 100 Women Who Care Fernie Giving Event, held in December, gave three local groups a $3500 boost. The donations came from 100 local women, collectively raising $10,500 and then promptly voting to award it to Angel Flight Elk Valley, Fernie Fresh Food Share, and Fernie Women’s Resource Centre.
Spearheaded by Patty Vadnais, Cindy Pearson, Anita Palmer, Donna-Marie Young, Marilyn Brock, Sharon Strom, Shantelle Weir, Sophie Howden and Zabrina Mohr, 100 Women Who Care Fernie is 100% volunteer supported, donating all funds raised to local grassroots organizations.
Using a simple membership format, 100 women from across the Elk Valley donate $100 at each Giving Event. Each nominate a local organization to receive funding, six nominations are drawn, and the nominating member gives a two-minute pitch in support of their cause. Members vote and the top voted two or three organizations are funded. In one hour, over $10,000 is put back into the community.
The next Giving Event is slated for May 2020. For more information visit 100wwcfernie.ca.

Elk Valley Chronic Pain Project
For the last 18 months, local physicians have come together engaging with allied health professionals and specialists to explore opportunities to improve chronic pain care in the valley.
Even though the project was impacted by the pandemic, making it complicated to engage with patients and physicians, continuous efforts have been undertaken to develop a patient-centred model of care adapted to local resources.
Thanks to the Primary Care Network initiative, a part-time social worker and part-time physiotherapist have been hired as the first members of a local pain team. The Elk Valley Living Well With Persistent Pain program will integrate pain education and one-on-one visits to support mild to moderate chronic pain patients. More information about the program will be shared in early 2021.
People interested can email Liz and Lois at elkvalleychronicpain@gmail.com.
