Fernie Patio Season

Summer and patios go hand in hand, whether it’s for that morning coffee, lunch with a view, or an après pint with friends. Here are a few of our favourites for you to check out this summer.

If you’re like me, Fernie Brewing Company’s (FBC) Trail to Ale challenge is a must in the summer months. The challenge is to hit three of Fernie’s iconic trails on foot or bike within a 24 hour period and to take a photo with the FBC sign at the top of each. Once completed, head to the brewery, prove your success through the photos, and receive a free beer and sticker… which you then get to enjoy on their beautiful patio basking in your accomplishment and the sunshine. Beer never tasted so good.

Have you ever hiked at Island Lake Lodge? And if yes, did you do the Goldilocks Trail? Highly recommend it. Regardless of what you hike within the 7,000 acres of Old Growth Forest and majestic peaks, hitting the Bear Patio is a must. The views will take your breath away, as will their food and cocktail menus.

Did you know that Fernie Alpine Resort is running the Timber Chair on Saturdays this summer season? Get ready for alpine access, amazing trails for both hiking and downhill mountain biking and most importantly, Lost Boys Café. Perched adjacent to the Timber Chair, overlooking the valley below, Lost Boys is definitely a wonderful experience especially with live music on the deck.

When you’re in downtown Fernie, hit up Lunchbox or Big Bang Bagels for a healthy, filling snack and smoothie while enjoying their outdoor patios and the energy of people going about their day. If you’re craving some great pub fare, consider the Brickhouse for a pint and burger which also has a fabulous 2nd ave patio. After a day of shopping or exploring the mountains, heading to Fernie Distillers is always a good idea. Not only do they make and serve award-winning spirits, but they also have a beautiful side patio that is wonderful to enjoy on a warm day. Fair warning – their cocktail menu is extremely challenging to choose from. You will likely be back for more!

We are fans of the Bridge Bistro. We love the owners. We love the staff. We love the menu. And wow! That view. Sitting on their back patio with my wee family, chatting about our days, watching as people float by along the Elk River as the sun sets over the Lizard Range, just feels like summer in Fernie. Another family favourite is Curry Bowl, enjoy some fresh Asian cuisine on their private rooftop patio.

I could really go on and on, as there are a lot of options! Just one last quick one to help you kick-start any day. Hit Freshies, get an Americano and a snack, and head outside to enjoy the people watching and gorgeous rays of sunshine.
