The Fernie Griz Pond Hockey Team hits the ice this month, at the World Pond hockey Championships. In Plaster Rock New Brunswick, 24 pond hockey rinks have been scraped and flooded, waiting for the puck to drop as 130 teams from around the world compete for the “best on the pond” status. The first round starts on Thursday, February 7, 7pm. The Fernie Griz will be facing off against the hometown team - The International Harvesters. Pool play continues on the 8th and 9th, with The Griz playing two games each day, needing a 2nd place pool finish to qualify for playoff February 10.

The Fernie Mountain Film Festival (FMFF) is hitting Fernie this February 21-23! New this year, early doors at 6pm for people to enjoy food from local restaurants and socialize before films start at 7pm. Food and beverages from Fernie’s favourite food vendors will be available at great prices. Also new this year is the addition of a guest speaker - Leo Grillmair, will speak on Saturday February 23 of his time working with Hans Gmoser to create CMH and invent Helicopter Skiing in the Bugaboo Mountains, a place where alpinists flock from all over the world to hike, climb and ski amongst granite nunataks.

The Fernie Women’s Centre has an exciting event planned for International Women’s Day, which will be held on March 9. This celebration of and for local women will take place in the Women’s Centre’s new space as well as at Vitality Gym, and will be an afternoon of fun, camaraderie and learning.
The event has been inspired by a trade show theme. Different tables will be set up featuring local women and their talents. Women can drop into the open house, explore the tables, mingle, ask questions and have the opportunity to sign up for mini workshops that will be held throughout the afternoon. Snacks and refreshments will also be provided. Some of the featured tables will include local artists, health services, Spa 901 Fernie, and Vitality Gym.
