Edge of the World goes DIY for Christmas...AGAIN! To get into the holiday spirit Edge of the World is running a fun DIY contest for all ages. Edge needs YOU to decorate their golden Christmas tree! Create a one of a kind Christmas ornament to hang on their tree for an entry to win a stocking full of prizes! Creations must be able to hang from a tree branch and be handmade (wood, paper, cardboard, popsicle sticks, etc.). Every ornament handed in will be entered into a draw for a stocking prize pack, one draw for kids and one for ages 13 and over. Hand in your masterpiece to the store until December 20. Elk Valley Hospice

The Elk Valley Hospice is looking for a great name for the recently renovated Palliative Care Room at the Elk Valley Hospital. The chosen entry will win a $100 gift certificate to a local Elk Valley business of choice!

Freshies Café

Located in downtown Fernie, Freshies Café is offering two exciting events on weekends this winter season. 

Freshies invites everyone to enjoy “The Après” on Saturdays 4-7 pm. They will have their popular Open Mic Music Jam and a fire pit outside, and offer wine, boozy coffee, and finger food.

Sundays, they are offering a cultural experience with “Teas of the World” from noon until close. Origine’s tea will be prepared and served by their very own tea sommelier in the tradition of each country and will be paired with traditional sweets. Kids will have their experience, too! Fernie Options for Sexual Health Clinic

The Fernie Options for Sexual Health Clinic is one of over 60 clinics in BC providing sexual and reproductive health services for all ages, all genders, and all orientations. Clinicians are committed to providing care that is confidential, nonjudgmental, youth-friendly and pro-choice. Services include free birth control for people in BC with MSP/BC Med (low cost for those without), STI care, cervical screening, pregnancy testing and options counselling. For clients without provincial health care, charges apply. 

The clinic runs every Tuesday evening during the winter months of January through March, and the first and third Tuesday of each month in April through December. Knox on 2nd

The old Knox Church on 2nd Ave has been transformed into a Performing Arts Center in Fernie. This volunteer-driven space is excited to welcome the community for both private rentals and promoted events. The building is adaptable and can be rented privately for weddings, parties, concerts, office events and more. Discounts are available for those events that help promote local artists and groups. 
The Knox on 2nd is excited to announce the creation of a Winter Concert Series that will run through the 2024 ski season starting in January.

Utilizing the building’s intimate setting and great acoustics, this series aims to bring in some exceptional musicians and allow a platform for local talent to perform. If you want to know more as a volunteer or as an artist, they encourage you to get in touch. Music aside, they have some amazing events coming up such as the Infinitea Events Christmas Parties in December and the Snowed in Comedy Tour Feb 4. Look for exciting things happening at Knox on 2nd in 2024!

REEL Canadian Film Festival

The Reel Canadian Film Society (RCFS) is excited to announce the 16th Annual REEL Canadian Film Festival taking place January 26-28, 2024. This year’s festival is set to showcase a diverse selection of films touching on different themes and genres showcasing the talent, diversity, and independence of the Canadian film industry. Early Bird passes will go on sale December 1, with a limited number available.

RCFS will continue with Local Reels this year, an opportunity for local filmmakers to show their short film on the big screen at the festival. RCFS is seeking submissions for this component of the film festival, whether you are an experienced or up and coming filmmaker located in the Kootenays, they want to hear from you.
