Happy Hounds/No Whine K9 Dog Walking
Tamara Egan and Zac Barret had both lived and worked in Fernie for many years in the service industry when they decided it was time for a change. Having two dogs of their own, they "barked" at the chance to start their own dog walking company and began No Whine K9 Dog Walking. After running this business successfully for a year, they decided to expand by purchasing Happy Hounds Adventures for Dogs.

Now operating seven days a week, with two vehicles running, they are now able to split the dogs into groups that suite them best. Exercise and socialization are important in creating a well-balanced dog. Walks are two to three hours in length on different bush trails out of town, include a free pick-up and drop off service, and leave your pup tired and content until you return home. In the first six weeks of 2012 three properties listed on PropertyGuys.com in Fernie have sold saving the sellers over $55,000 in commissions.

If you’re thinking of selling, call to speak to a local representative or visit their website for pricing and details.

Loaf Bakery, 1201-6th Ave 250-423-7702

Loaf Bakery is moving downtown – and is bringing its all-natural, locally handmade bread and pizzas with it, as well as big ideas for a new 50-seater restaurant.

After two years in their current location, owners Phil and Claire Gadd bought the 1800 sq ft former Fernie Bakery building at 641 2nd Ave. Several months of renovations will see the store-front changed to glazed doors that can be opened for summer al fresco dining. Inside will include a retail bakery and restaurant, with airy modern decor in natural finishes. Loaf is aiming to open downtown before Canada Day.

“We are overwhelmed by the positive reaction everyone has had to this news,” says Phil. “It will be business as usual until we open at the new location, and we will keep everyone updated on the renovation process.”

Loaf’s project team includes The LeBlond Partnership architects, project manager Dorian Medlicott and Cascade Engineering.

Fernie Pets Society, www.ferniepets.org

Fernie Pets Society is fundraising for more facilities for Fernie’s estimated 700 dogs (one per six residents) and 400 cats (one per 10 residents).
The society’s first project is to raise $30,000 to fence off the off-leash dog area near Fernie Aquatic Centre, making it easier for responsible dog owners to exercise, socialize and train their pets.
The goal is to complete the fence by the end of fall 2012.

You can support this project by becoming a Fernie Pets Society member – your $20 annual fee will go towards the off-leash park fund. The society is also working with the City of Fernie to find better ways to return lost or wandering pets home. Society members can register their contact details and pet’s description on the society database to help get your pet safely home if it escapes.
